February 2025 Monthly Report
March 2, 2025
Dear NVICA Members,
February has been a busy and exciting month for NVICA, filled with new initiatives, community engagement, and opportunities to connect. I’m pleased to share some highlights and upcoming events with you.
Membership renewals have been strong, and we’re excited to welcome new members. It’s great to see our culinary community growing, and we appreciate your continued involvement and support.
One of the biggest updates this month is the launch of our new website! You can now visit www.northvancouverislandculinary.com and www.northvancouverislandchefs.com to stay up to date with NVICA news and events. We are still adding content, so stay tuned for more updates.
We’ve also improved our Scholarship and Bursary page to make it easier for members to apply and receive support. Investing in our culinary community is a priority, and we encourage all eligible members to take advantage of these opportunities.
In February, NVICA members gathered at Blackfin Pub to support Burger It Forward, a national initiative with Beef Canada and the BC Cattlemen’s Association. This campaign raises funds for local food banks while highlighting Canadian beef. It was great to support this cause while enjoying a fantastic meal together.
On February 23rd, we took a break from the kitchen and snowshoed up Mount Washington. It was a great way to enjoy the outdoors and connect with fellow members outside of our usual culinary setting. Thank you to everyone who joined us!
March began with a successful Back to Basics workshop, focusing on core culinary techniques. It’s always valuable to revisit fundamental skills, and we look forward to hosting more hands-on learning events in the future.
We also launched our NVICA Freezer Raffle, which has had a strong start. The grand prize is a 20 cu. in. Frigidaire stand-up freezer filled with food from our members. Tickets are $5 each and there are only 4000 available. If you’re interested in selling or purchasing tickets, please reach out—every ticket sold helps support NVICA programs.
Looking ahead, our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held on March 17, 2025, at 6:00 PM via Zoom. This is an important meeting where we will hold elections, discuss committee reports, and plan for the future. Your participation is crucial, so please mark your calendars.
On April 27th, we will visit Powell River for a culinary tour, featuring:
• An artisanal ice cream experience
• A hands-on ramen-making workshop
• A brewery tour
Additionally, I will be traveling to Kelowna next weekend with Chef Ronald to attend the Western Conference. This is a great opportunity to connect with industry leaders and bring back valuable insights for NVICA.
February has been a month of growth and connection, and I appreciate everyone’s support. I look forward to seeing many of you at the AGM and upcoming events!
Sincerely,
Jonathan Frazier
